Erasmus+ KA210-ADU Project Germany Activity Successfully Completed
Intensive Learning Programme of “From Your Balcony to the Green Future” Held in Germany
The Germany learning activity of the Erasmus+ KA210-ADU project “From Your Balcony to the Green Future” was successfully completed under the hosting of Shelter International e.V. Bringing together partners and adult educators from four countries, the programme offered comprehensive training on sustainable balcony gardening, natural fertilizer production, and climate-responsible practices. It stands as one of the most important implementation milestones of the project.
Training Programme and Activities Conducted
Throughout the activity, participants took part in both theoretical sessions and hands-on workshops. The main components of the programme were:
Practical Balcony and Terrace Gardening Workshops
Educators explored modern methods for growing vegetables, herbs, and aromatic plants in small spaces. Sessions included:
Soil-based and soilless growing techniques
Vertical gardening systems made from recycled materials
Plant selection, irrigation planning, and sunlight optimization
Natural Fertilizer and Compost Production
Participants learned how to transform household organic waste into natural fertilizer. Trainers demonstrated:
The role of compost in improving soil quality
Reducing chemical fertilizer use through natural alternatives
The contribution of composting to climate-friendly cultivation
Educational Approaches for Migrant and Disadvantaged Adults
Shelter International shared effective methods for working with migrant adults in Germany. Key topics included:
Overcoming language barriers in skills-based training
Using nature-based learning for social adaptation
The positive impact of balcony gardening on integration and wellbeing
Joint Work on the Project’s Digital Output
A significant portion of the activity focused on developing the content of the project’s final digital product:
“The Digital Handbook for Sustainable Balcony Gardening.”
Participants cooperated on:
Drafting training modules
Comparing country examples and successful practices
Producing photo and video materials for the handbook
International Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange
Representatives from Türkiye, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Germany took part in the event. Adult educators shared their national experiences in environmental education, discussed challenges related to climate change, and explored common strategies.
The activity strengthened:
Mutual learning between institutions
International collaboration in green skills education
The creation of a long-term cooperation network focused on sustainability
Learning Outcomes and Expected Impact
The Germany activity made a strong contribution to the project’s objectives:
Adult educators enhanced their competencies in green skills and sustainability education.
The quality and structure of the project’s digital outputs were improved.
A clear roadmap was established for disseminating balcony gardening practices across Europe.
Valuable materials for the digital handbook were collected and developed.
Participants also began planning how to integrate the newly acquired methods into adult learning programmes in their home countries.
Conclusion
The Germany activity of the “From Your Balcony to the Green Future” project was completed with great success. It strengthened international cooperation, supported environmentally responsible adult education, and contributed significantly to the project’s long-term impact.
All outcomes will be shared through the EPALE platform and partner institutions to ensure broad dissemination.
